AKA Stag beetle. Big mandibles on this large sized lucanid. The menacing mandibles are used when males are fighting over territory or females. Note the lovely rich golden brown on the elytra. These beetles feed on rotten fruit or tree sap whilst the larvae feed on rotting wood. Fantastic specimen wings open .
