These large hairy spiders are a member of the Theraphosidae family which comprises over 900 species.
They reside in burrows and mainly have a diet of small insects. Some of the larger Tarantulas have been known to devour birds, mice and small snakes.
They coat their prey with digestive juices to liquefy it as they can only ingest food in liquid form. Their hairs are used as a defence mechansim, thay easily break off and cause irritation.
